Pastor Matt Schultz Announces Campaign for Congress to Bring Alaska Values back to Washington

Schultz’s launch centers on lowering costs, protecting health care, and keeping Alaska’s future here; includes a service event for storm impacted communities in Western Alaska

ANCHORAGE, AK — Today, pastor and community leader Matt Schultz announced his campaign for Alaska’s at-large seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Schultz, a longtime faith leader, husband, and dad, says his campaign will focus on making life affordable, protecting access to health care across Alaska, and delivering a future that keeps kids and jobs here at home. While Alaska’s representatives cut food assistance programs and health care for 40,000 Alaskan families and threaten Alaskan industry with reckless economic policies, Schultz is running to put Alaskans first.

“Every week I sit with families choosing between the heating bill, the gas to get to work, or the groceries to feed their kids. That’s not a failure of character, it’s a failure of our elected officials to address the needs of working families,” said Schultz. “I’m running for Congress to turn the page on partisan politics and put Alaskans first by lowering costs, protecting health care, and making smart investments so our kids can live, work, and raise a family here.”

“My congregation includes Alaskans from across the political spectrum – Republicans, Democrats, and Independents –we’re Alaskans first and we share the same values. The problem is that Washington doesn’t. I’m running for Congress so Alaskan values set the agenda for our future” said Schultz.

Service Event (Closed Press)

In line with the campaign’s core value of service to Alaskans, Schultz will spend launch day partnering with Anchorage First Presbyterian Church and other interfaith organizations to collect baby supplies for families from Western Alaska who were recently evacuated following the storm.

Note: This event is closed to media to respect family privacy. Post-event photos and a short recap will be made available upon request.

Schultz’s campaign will emphasize:

  • Affordability: Tackling the high cost of groceries, fuel, housing, and child care; supporting the infrastructure rural communities rely on.

  • Health care: Safeguarding access to clinics and lifesaving care, cutting travel and wait times, and keeping medicine within reach.

  • A future in Alaska: Strengthening schools, creating good-paying jobs, and giving young people real reasons to stay and raise families here.

About Matt Schultz

Matt Schultz is a pastor, community leader, and father of three who has served Alaskan families for more than two decades. As the Pastor at Anchorage First Presbyterian Church, Matt has led a congregation rooted in service, organizing volunteers, partnering with local nonprofits, and building programs that meet Alaskans where they are. Under his leadership, the church has played a leading role in efforts to expand safe, stable housing for Anchorage’s homeless community, including supporting initiatives that turned underused properties into long-term, dignified homes. Matt brings the same roll-up-your-sleeves approach to every challenge: convene people, find common ground, and get results.

Matt earned his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. He has counseled Alaskans through illness, addiction, and loss, and those experiences have shaped his conviction that policy should serve real people, not special interests. He’s running for Congress to lower costs for working families, protect access to health care across every region of the state, and deliver a future for the next generation of Alaskans. Matt and his wife, Elizabeth, are raising their three children in Anchorage.
