We can be a nation that enforces the law and honors human dignity at the same time. America deserves safe communities and a humane immigration system that follows the law and respects human dignity. I believe that constitutional rights do not disappear because someone is an immigrant or because an agency operates in the shadows. Security and compassion are not opposites.

I support:

• Passing comprehensive immigration reform that secures the border and makes it easier to come here legally

• Holding federal immigration enforcement to the same professional and constitutional standards as all law enforcement agencies, including requiring body cameras and independent investigations

• Fundamental changes to ICE to ensure accountability. That means rebuilding ICE from the ground up until it is an agency that respects the Constitution, rule of law, and America’s basic values. That must include rigorous training requirements focused on de-escalation, civil rights, and lawful conduct to create an agency that is accountable for its conduct

• Defending a lawful asylum system that reflects our values by welcoming the neighbor and protecting people fleeing violence and persecution
  

I believe in secure communities and fair enforcement. Too many leaders have stayed silent in the face of federal overreach and abuse. Alaska deserves a representative who will speak up, demand accountability, and stand for both public safety and the Bill of Rights.
